Special Arts Event this Weekend!!
Good morning, beautiful people! Today I will be traveling to Eureka to hang 13 of my original paintings at Humboldt Herbals for my Artist Reception this Saturday evening at Arts Alive's monthly art walk. The reception is from 6 to 9pm with music and drinks, so come out to Old Town and support all of the amazingly talented artists and musicians our community has to offer...if you miss the reception, my art will be hanging at Humboldt Herbals for 2 months, and there will be another reception at next month's Arts Alive including the We'Moon 2013 Calendars that feature my art...

Carrie Wachter Martinez will be showing her colorful, nature-inspired acrylic paintings at Humboldt Herbals, 300 Second St. in Eureka, for the months of September and October in a show titled “The Art of Carrie Wachter Martinez: A Collection of Acrylic Paintings Exploring the Spirit of Nature and the Power of Women.”
Receptions with refreshments and live music will be held for her during Arts Alive! on Saturday, and again on Oct. 6 from 6 to 9 p.m.
The collection of acrylic paintings contains some of Martinez' “most deeply meaningful works,” capturing the natural world that inspires her and “celebrating feminine spiritual power through ancient symbolism and strong representations of women.”
One of these pieces, “Healing Water (Mama Luna),” has been selected for publication in the We'Moon 2013 calendar, a highly-acclaimed collection of women's art and an iconic feminist datebook that has been in publication for over 30 years. A special reception and unveiling of the calendar will be held during the Oct. 6 Arts Alive! event at Humboldt Herbals.
Martinez moved to California 13 years ago from Miami, Fla. “I fell in love with the natural beauty of Southern Humboldt. I felt so inspired that I began to paint in order to express the deeper meaning I was experiencing in my life.” said Martinez in an artist's statement.
Without any formal art instruction, she developed her own style of acrylic painting. Her pieces have a softness that complements the bold use of color. ”My palette is rich and earthy,” she said, “and I am inspired by Mexican artists Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, and by Post-Impressionist painters Paul Gauguin and Vincent Van Gogh.”
In 2011, she started a company called Cara Mia Bella to expand the reach of her images. She has received awards and acclaim for her distinct handling of her chosen medium, and she teaches her techniques and shares her creative process on her blog: www.CaraMiaBella.com.
