Paint Party Friday....The Owl Finds his Home

Every painting is a journey in itself.
We start our journeys with the desire to interpret an image via the creative medium we have chosen.  The image forms within us.

As the layers of paint and form begin to converge, the flat 2-dimensional space is transformed, connecting the reality of the observed image with the creative vision of the artist.

The final dimension created is the reality that occurs within the observer.
Artists are the creators of multi-dimensional reality.

The journey of the Owl began with this simple background.  I loved the trees and stylized sky, but something wasn't working with that big open space.

I had been doing some paintings with borders, and thought that would work with the owl.  I didn't take into consideration the fact that owls are wild animals and can't be confined in a box.  I like the branches and the moon, but now the owl didn't "pop" as much as before.

I finally sat down this week with the owl outside and sat and sat.  Then my hand lifted and began to apply the paint.  More and more paint, until the trees grew tall (where owls like to live) and the stars sparkled (when owls like to play).  A world unfolded around the owl, and the owl was content.
He had found his home.

What do you think?  Do you like Owl #1, Owl #2 or Owl #3??
I would love to hear your opinions!

Be sure to visit all of the other artists' journeys over at the Paint Party Friday, or if you are an artist who would like to share your own journey, join the fun every week!!
